Measure resting stick offset in the browser and interpret the result correctly.
What is stick drift?
When axis values do not return to center after the stick is released, a game character or camera may move by itself. Small offsets occur on many controllers; what matters is whether the offset repeats and exceeds the game's deadzone. Place the controller on a stable surface and do not touch the sticks during the test.
- Press a controller button first if the device is not detected.
- Release the sticks during the three-second sample.
- Compare the result over USB and Bluetooth.
How large should the deadzone be?
There is no universal failure threshold. A very low deadzone improves sensitivity but exposes small center offsets; a high value reduces fine control. Try the manufacturer's calibration first, then increase the in-game deadzone only as much as needed.
DeviceDoctor samples the axes exposed through the Gamepad API. Operating-system calibration and controller mapping can affect the result, so use the manufacturer's test for warranty decisions.
